an incentive dangled in front of them, but you can\u2019t just use any old \u201cethical bribe\u201d &#8212; it needs to be appropriate.<\/p><p>I was once offered discounts on buying a suite of computers for my school if I persuaded my colleagues to take out an insurance policy!<\/p><p>This was both inappropriate and, let\u2019s be honest, sleazy.<\/p><p>Apart from anything else, what would trying to persuade my colleagues to take out a new insurance policy have done for my reputation?<\/p><p>And where would it put me if they lost money as a result?<\/p><p>But even if the insurance policy was so good it would have sold itself, that incentive was inappropriate for one very simple reason.<\/p><p>The school was buying the computers, and therefore it should have been the school (or an organisation it sponsored) that benefitted from any incentives rather than individual members of staff.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some companies have a system whereby when someone buys something, they are provided with a discount code to pass on to a friend.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the context of edtech, this idea could be adapted in several ways.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For example, a school could pass the code on to another school with which they have a relationship.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Or, in a secondary school, a department making a purchase could pass the discount code to another head of department.<\/span><\/p><h3><strong>Subscriptions<\/strong><\/h3><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Another idea, especially for companies who produce content like textbooks, manuals, or software is to have a <\/span><b>subscription scheme<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If a school customer pays, say, \u00a3100 per year, every new item or upgrade is provided free of charge.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If each item costs, for instance, \u00a320, it doesn\u2019t take long for the subscription to pay for itself.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That\u2019s the advantage from the school\u2019s point of view. The advantage for the company is that it has a <\/span><b>guaranteed income<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p><h3><strong>Training<\/strong><\/h3><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If the product is complex or is upgraded, <\/span><b>providing free training once a year<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to the whole staff can be a powerful incentive for some schools.<\/span><\/p><h3><strong>Training programme<\/strong><\/h3><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As we know, companies like Apple, Google and Microsoft run certified teacher training programmes.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The great thing about them is that the credentials achieved have currency.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text ); font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif; font-size: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-size );\">That is to say, their \u201cgraduates\u201d can use them to make themselves more attractive in the job market.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You may not be aware that some smaller companies run similar programmes, whereby some trainees achieve a basic skills level, and some go on to achieve a \u201cmaster\u201d level.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It can be very reassuring for a school to know that one of its teachers is able to train others in the intricacies of a product.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Is that an incentive <\/span><b>your<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> company might offer?<\/span><\/p><h3><strong>Free survey<\/strong><\/h3><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Before the pandemic, wireless network companies tended to carry out free surveys of a school\u2019s set-up, followed by a report on what they needed.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An alternative version of this idea took the form of <\/span><b>free audit software<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by which a school could find out, for example, what software was installed on its stand-alone computers.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><h3><strong>Loyalty programme<\/strong><\/h3><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We\u2019re all familiar with this concept: spend a certain amount of money and <\/span><b>receive coupons giving you discounts<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on particular products.<\/span><\/p><p><strong>User forums<\/strong><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Another kind of incentive is access to <\/span><b>closed user forums<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> or <\/span><b>private Facebook groups<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, in which users can share ideas and resources, and find out how other users have solved some problems.<\/span><\/p><h3><strong>Faster support response times<\/strong><\/h3><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mailerlite.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mailerlite<\/a>, the mailing list service provider, operates a system whereby free users can obtain support by email, but paying users can get help immediately via live chat.<\/span><\/p><h3><strong>Access to beta programme<\/strong><\/h3><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Access to beta versions of products, and the <\/span><b>opportunity to test new ones or upgrades<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, can be an attractive proposition to some potential buyers.<\/span><\/p><h3><strong>Early access to new releases\/upgrades<\/strong><\/h3><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An extension of the preceding suggestion is being given the opportunity to buy new products and upgrades <i>before<\/i> they are on sale to the general public.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Amazon has a scheme for Prime customers whereby subscribers can \u201cbuy\u201d some ebooks for free a month before they are officially published.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><h3><strong>Discounts<\/strong><\/h3><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is a variation of other suggestions here: existing customers are offered discounts on <i>future<\/i> purchases.<\/span><\/p><h3><strong>Bonuses<\/strong><\/h3><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rather than offer a discount, consider <\/span><b>offering a bonus<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some sellers prefer this because offering a discount could be seen as lowering the perceived value of a product, whereas the term \u201cbonus\u201d tends not to have that sort of negative connotation.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For example, some sellers on the internet will advertise that if you buy this product within the next 3 days, you will also receive one or more free reports as a bonus.<\/span><\/p><h3><strong>Affiliate\/referral program<\/strong><\/h3><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is a way of <\/span><b>encouraging your customers to do some of your marketing for you<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It may be, for example, that you pay them 20% of the value of a purchase by a <a href=\"http:\/\/beedigital.marketing\/how-to-get-the-best-out-of-your-teacher-testimonials\/\">referred customer<\/a>.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This sounds like a lot, but the idea is that you will still retain 80% of the value of a sale you might not otherwise have made.<\/span><\/p><h3><strong>Free maintenance\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Finally, another incentive might be to offer a <\/span><b>free maintenance visit or service<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> visit once a year.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Perhaps this could be one of the benefits of being a subscriber if you decide to offer such a scheme.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-ac5febc elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"ac5febc\" be mixed and matched.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Perhaps none of them in themselves would be enough to convince a person or school to buy your product.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, if two companies are offering similar products, it could well be an <\/span><b>incentive scheme<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that tips the balance in favour of one of them.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section
