They are time-poor, cash-strapped, and spend little time at their desk.<\/p><p>For that reason, it feels easier to blast a list of target teachers and cross your fingers.<\/p><p>Surely some of them will bite?<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-0330edc elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"0330edc\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Falling into the cold email list trap<\/h3>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-6dca76b elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"6dca76b\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Let&#8217;s say you buy 1000 headteacher emails and send them a promotional email about a free trial for your awesome new learning platform.<\/p><p>If you get a 20% open rate (which would be\u00a0amazing\u00a0considering none of these busy headteachers was expecting to hear from you &#8211; expect more like 5-10%) that means 200 Headteachers opened your email.<\/p><p>If 4% click the link &#8211;\u00a0again, generous for a cold list &#8211;\u00a0to your promotion page that means 8 Headteachers have shown an interest (but you don&#8217;t know how strong that interest is).<\/p><p>But, like comedy, the secret is timing.<\/p><p>Because when your email arrived they\u00a0weren&#8217;t looking for what you do.<\/p><p>There was no\u00a0intent.<\/p><p>So\u00a0maybe\u00a0one or two take your trial (which they never really use).<\/p><p>Not a great ROI, huh?<\/p><p>As a result, at best, you sink into their inbox history. At worst you get marked as spam.<\/p><p>So you send a follow-up email. But even email nurture series to people that WANT to hear from you follow the law of diminishing returns.\u00a0So imagine how reduced the impact would be to a cold list.<\/p><p>And now you&#8217;re in the cold email list trap.<\/p><p>Eventually, if you\u00a0keep\u00a0badgering them you only get ignored harder and risk active dislike.\u00a0Ultimately, you wasted your chance to build a relationship with them.<\/p><p>This doesn&#8217;t mean your product is bad. (Hint: LOTS).<\/li>\n<li>If a school&#8217;s ISP or email provider consider you a spammer, your IP address or domain can be blocked and blacklisted.<\/li>\n<li>It&#8217;s very annoying&nbsp;<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"emoji\" role=\"img\" draggable=\"false\" src=\"https:\/\/s.w.org\/images\/core\/emoji\/13.1.0\/svg\/1f92c.svg\" alt=\"\ud83e\udd2c\"> You&#8217;re a stranger appearing in their email inbox, alongside messages from the senior team, their colleagues, and their students&#8217; parents. from walking up to a teacher in a staff room and shouting into their face &#8220;DEAR FIRST NAME, YOU DON&#8217;T KNOW ME BUT WOULD YOU LIKE A 30 DAY FREE TRIAL TO MY PRODUCT?&#8221;<\/p><p>And that&#8217;s if you have a named email!<\/p><p>Some just to go to an office@ or admin@ email address for e.g. the attention of the &#8216;Head of Key Stage 2&#8243;. That&#8217;s even further away from success.<\/p><p>Certainly you wouldn&#8217;t have to look very hard to find teachers that hate getting spammed by educational companies.<\/p><p>And the Headteachers and senior leaders you want to target?
